Outpatient Therapy

At Inner Door Center® , we offer a variety of psychological and nutrition services to help individuals improve their quality of life along with attaining life and work skills.  Although our specialty is eating disorders and related addictions, we offer so much more.  In addition, we are not a "medication clinic."  Psychotherapy comes first, with medication as an adjunct.  Prior to seeing our Psychiatrist, you will need to establish an ongoing relationship with a psychotherapist at our clinic.

Our staff is highly skilled, professional and experienced in working with these issues.  Our mental health providers include:

  • Fully licensed psychologists
  • Limited licensed psychologists
  • Licensed professional counselors
  • Licensed social workers
  • Certified advanced alcohol and drug counselors
  • Board certified psychiatrists
  • Certified nurse practitioners

We also have registered dietitians on staff who offer nutrition counseling along with yoga practitioners who offer private yoga therapy.

“Inner Strength” Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Substance Abuse

The IOP is ideal for someone transitioning from a residential program outside of our facility or used when a higher level of care is needed vs outpatient therapy.  Individuals in our IOP may transition to outpatient therapy at our facility or back to their referring treatment team.  Weekly group support is available at our facility upon discharge.

Initial Interview

Prior to acceptance into the IOP, potential participants are to complete a health questionnaire regarding current health status, substance abuse/addiction involvement, family history, emotional health and commitment to the intensive program. This questionnaire will help us work with patients more effectively in our program.

If the patient is an appropriate fit, the following assessments will be scheduled for program clearance prior to the start of the program:

  • Psychiatric assessment and consultation by our psychiatrist (medical director)
  • Nursing assessment by our registered nurse
  • Medical examination by our Internist
  • Psychological assessment by one of our licensed mental health practitioners who specialized in drug and alcohol counseling
  • Nutrition assessment by our registered dietitian

Once admitted into the program, we work with patients to develop and achieve treatment plan goals which are revised according to standards set forth in the Michigan Mental Health Code, which is every 30 days in an IOP. If patients are not making scheduled progress in our program, according to concurrent ASAMPPC-2R, ASAM Patient Placement Criteria for the Treatment of Substance Related Disorders, 2nd Edition - Revised, David Mee Lee, MD Editor, 2011, that we complete along with initial and follow up treatment plans, or if patient begins to decompensate, shows up to program intoxicated or relapses, a higher level of care will be recommended outside of our facility.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) schedule is as follows and has a rolling admission:

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday:

5:30 - 8:30 pm - Didactic and Group therapy, intertwined with light dinner

In addition to IOP hours:
