Our staff is highly skilled and specializes in eating disorder recovery along with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, which often go hand in hand with eating disorders. In addition, we offer counseling related to marriage and family challenges, parenting and juvenile justice matters along with post traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety all of which our staff brings a wealth of experience.
We are licensed physicians, psychotherapists, yoga therapists, registered yoga teachers, creative arts therapists and registered dietitians.
BEVERLY PRICE, RD, MA, E-RYT is a nationally renowned Registered Dietitian, Exercise Physiologist and Registered Yoga Teacher who is recognized for her distinctive approach to eating disorder recovery and food/body image issues using yoga. She is an author, newspaper columnist and national presenter. Beverly blends mindful and conscious eating with yoga in her Reconnect with Food® personal counseling and group support programs at Inner Door Center and is the program director. She has published and presented several peer reviewed articles of research in her career. Beverly has created and cultivated the Reconnect with Food® to benefit those struggling with eating disorders, and co-occurring disorders, along with the surrounding community.
CLAIRE ABRAMS has worked in psychiatric billing for over 20 years. She is also a certified medical assistant and has managed psychiatric practices. Claire oversees the billing for outpatient therapy and psychiatric services at Inner Door Center.
DEB COLLING, OFFICE MANAGER has worked in dental office management for several years. She has honed her skills in business administration, including insurance and accounting along with payroll. Deb oversees the front office personnel, all program billing and all collections at Inner Door Center along with all accounting and business-related issues for patients and staff.
MEGHANN LOCKER, CREDENTIALING SPECIALIST brings a diverse background in office administration, customer service, organization and communication to Inner Door Center. Meghann is responsible for interfacing with insurance companies regarding credentialing new staff members and re-credentialing our facility as needed with various insurance companies, along with forming new contracts. She is also responsible for purchasing and special projects at Inner Door Center. Her added passion in music performance makes her a natural fit for working at our center.
BRANDY LOUKS, FRONT OFFICE CORRESPONDENT
Brandy's role is to greet patients in our evening programs and outpatient therapy clinic. Brandy is completing her master’s degree in counseling from Oakland University and served as an intern with our program in the summer of 2011. She brings a wealth of knowledge with her, so she is able to be a great resource for current and prospective clients.
JESSECA SPITTLE, OFFICE INTAKE COORDINATOR, EATING DISORDER PROGRAMS has worked in customer service for most of her career. She is responsible for communicating with patients regarding their interest in our eating disorder treatment program, interfacing with facilities if patient's are transitioned from or to a higher level of care, patient scheduling in their treatment program and and making sure that patients are happy throughout their treatment programs at Inner Door Center. Jesseca's friendly personality is an asset to Inner Door Center and puts our patients at ease.
MEGAN THERRIEN, OFFICE INTAKE COORDINATOR, OUTPATIENT THERAPY is responsible for answering phones, outpatient scheduling and communication, greeting our patients and making sure that patients are happy with their therapy at Inner Door Center. Megan’s previous experience in customer service in various arenas makes her a natural for this position.
ARTHUR EFROS, ADJUNCT MEDICAL DIRECTOR is board certified in internal medicine and has an interest in geriatrics. Art's medical degree is from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. His special interest in eating disorders lends itself to our programs at Inner Door Center as we utilize Dr. Efros's expertise in the management of our clients.
ROBERT POHL, MD, MEDICAL DIRECTOR graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1973 and went on to train in psychiatry at the Lafayette Clinic. He is board certified in adult psychiatry and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Pohl has taught psychiatry and conducted clinical research for 30 years as a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He has recently left that position and is now in full time private practice and is also the Medical Director at Inner Door Center. Dr. Pohl specializes in psychopharmacology and is author or co-author of over 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications related to anxiety and depression. Journal editors have asked Dr. Pohl to review the work of other researchers for potential publication in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychiatry Research, the American Heart Journal, Depression and Anxiety, Biological Psychiatry, and Bipolar Disorder. Dr. Pohl often gives talks to other physicians about new medications.
SALLY SCHULMAN GAFT, OT is an Eastern Michigan University graduate in occupational therapy with over 25 years of experience in the field. She is also pursuing a master's degree in social work from Wayne State University. Sally has worked locally as well as in Maine and Colorado during her career. Sally's focus at Inner Door Center is occupational skills of daily living including re-integration into school, the work force and determining the most ideal living situation.
MARYANNE SWANSON, CNP, CLINICAL SUPERVISOR is a Nurse Practitioner with specialties in Adult Health and Psych Mental Health. She has over twenty five years of experience in a variety of settings from the hospital to outpatient clinics, education, corporate and community settings. She is a strong patient advocate and dedicated to promoting total health and wellness of mind, body and spirit.
TAWANA JACKSON, RMA, UTILIZATION REVIEW SPECIALIST, EATING DISORDER PROGRAMS is a Professional Registered Medical Assistant. She is a graduate of Sanford-Brown College. Tawana's role is to obtain vital signs of our program patients each morning and to obtain daily clinical report from each patients so that our other staff members can deliver quality and comprehensive care. She also functions as our Utilization Management Coordinator. Tawana is personable, professional and no-nonsense. Her compassionate way helps our patients grow and heal.
DARCI NOONCHESTER, MS, RD is a registered dietitian and an exercise physiologist. She is completing her degree in Naturopathic Medicine to be come a Naturopathic Doctor (ND). Darci has practiced as a Michigan dietitian specializing in bariatric surgery since 2002. She has extensive experience in functional medicine, a personalized patient centered approach using the whole person to help create balance through healthy lifestyle changes using food and supplementation. Darci has been interviewed by various personalities, including Peter Nielsen. Darci is the preferred dietitian for Ford Motor Company employees.
MEGAN SMITH, RD is a Registered Dietitian with experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary health care team to deliver superior nutrition care to patients with complex medical conditions. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University and completed her dietetic internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Megan worked as a volunteer at the Inner Door Center® during college, and now her new role within the Reconnect with Food® program is to assess the nutrition status of participants, provide appropriate medical nutrition therapy and to provide nutrition counseling and education to patients in our eating disorder treatment program. She also sees outpatient clients looking for nutrition therapy related to various medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, etc.) and weight management.
ALICE SUBIA, RN, MS, RYT is a Registered Nurse and Registered Yoga Teacher. She takes pride in being a creative and reliable individual. She enjoys working with other team members to conduct individualized programs that facilitate a client’s personal growth, state of physical well-being and self-empowerment. Alice's background in nursing and her experience in patient education have enhanced these abilities to work with a diverse client population. Alice is trained in Hatha yoga and is also a laughter yoga leader. She has also been involved with the Reconnect with Food ® program since its inception. In addition, she volunteers at Gilda's Club where she teaches a regular chair yoga class.
STEVEN FISCHER, PHD, CLINICAL DIRECTOR is the first Fully Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan to also become a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Originally trained in the medical sciences, Dr. Fischer received his B.S. degree in biology and chemistry. He then completed graduate study at the University of Minnesota in psychopharmacology and experimental psychology. He obtained his PhD in psychology and psychiatry from Michigan State University in 1982. In 2006, he completed additional training in nutrition and became a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Dr. Fischer is a former Associate Adjunct Professor in the Psychiatry Department of MSU’s College of Medicine and was also a Clinical Supervisor in the Medical School at Wayne State University. He is the clinical director and clinical supervisor at Inner Door Center.
EVA MELISSA GADD, LMSW, C-SWG is a Master’s Level Clinical Social Worker who studied at Columbia University in NYC and completed her degree at the University of Michigan. She has been practicing social work since 1997in medical and clinical settings. Melissa has experience working with adults in different stages of life, including those suffering from depression, anxiety, life stressors, chronic disease, caregiving situations, adjustment disorders, grief and loss along with those struggling with addictions and related issues. She is an empathic, active listener who uses an eclectic, holistic method. Melissa draws on individuals’ past life experiences along with their current situations to emphasize a strengths model. She truly enjoys helping people through difficult times and looks forward to working with you at the Inner Door.
TRAVIS KNIGHT, MA, LPC, PsyS is a licensed professional counselor trained to work with adults, couples, teenagers, families, and those struggling with addictions. His goal is to not only help people reduce their difficulties, but to help them understand the root cause of them. Most importantly, his main goal is to help you reach your goals. Travis has a Master of Arts degree from Wayne State University with a concentration in agency counseling and substance abuse counseling. He is also pursuing his Doctorate in Psychology at Michigan School of Professional Psychology. Expected graduation date of Fall 2012. Travis specializes in bi-polar disorder, depression & anxiety, faith-based counseling, family and marriage counseling, substance abuse counseling and dissociative disorders.
JACKIE MEYERS, Psy.S, LPC, NCC, PROGRAM DIRECTOR is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Limited Licensed Psychologist in the state of Michigan. She is also a National Certified Counselor. She has an advanced certificate specializing in Mental Health. Jackie completed her clinical requirements at Family Youth Interventions, Harbor Oaks Hospital, and Hendrie Crisis Residential Unit. Jackie has experience working with adolescents and adults with various mental health issues, addictions, eating disorders, and substance abuse issues. Her area of specialty is in working with relationship difficulties, specifically treating couples and families.
DAVID PRICE, MA, LPC, CAADC is a licensed professional counselor and certified advanced addictions counselor. David has extensive experience working with at-risk youth at Starr Commonwealth for 27 years, along with alcohol, chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders in teen and adult males at private company that contracts with the Detroit Department of Substance Abuse. He has a patient, calm but yet thought provoking style, creating an environment of safety and trust for his clients.
TRICIA STEHLE, LMSW holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Michigan, and has been practicing for 15 years. She specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and other addictions. She is also passionate in the area of Sports Psychology, and is presently pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a focus within the area of eating disorders. Tricia is known for her "solution focused manner" of treatment. She has presented numerous community and continuing education presentations on eating disorders and other addictions, and believes in educating the community at large about the etiology of eating disorders, and treatment.
CAITLIN BROWN, RYT, MSW INTERN is a student completing her Masters in Social Work at Wayne State University. She received her BA in Social Sciences from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor with a focus on photography and social justice. She has experience working with various non-profits in Detroit and has worked with young adults and the LGBT population. Caitlin is also a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level through Yoga Alliance. She completed her teacher training through the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, North Carolina. As a daughter of a chef and a very food-centric family, Caitlin is very passionate about food and nutrition and is excited to help people create healthier relationships with their bodies and food. With a strong view of the importance of holistic healing of mind, body and soul, Caitlin is excited to work with Reconnect with Food and incorporate yoga therapy and yogic philosophy into her social work practice.
SARAH PHILLIPS, MSW INTERN is a clinical intern completing her MSW at Wayne State University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in Cognitive Science from Michigan State University. She is passionate about issues that affect women. As an undergraduate, she gained experience working with survivors of sexual assault through advocacy, community development and crisis intervention. Additionally, she has interpersonal experience working with young women in transition, women with disabilities and Latina women. Her professional interests include alternative therapies and holistic mental health. She is ecstatic to be involved in a program that promotes spiritual awareness as a component of personal growth in its clients.
SARAH HUGHES, RYT, MSW INTERN is a clinical intern completing her Masters in Social Work at the University of Michigan with a specialization in international social work and community development. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Women’s Studies from Brigham Young University. Sara has experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders, substance abuse treatment, crisis intervention, domestic violence prevention, and women and children advocacy. She recently returned from an international internship in India where she worked with the leprosy affected of Tamil Nadu. While in India Sara conducted a child-sex abuse and HIV-AIDS prevention program, a young women’s support group, provided resource and crisis management, and traveled with the mobile medical clinic.Sara is a certified Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level and completed her teacher training through the Bodhi Yoga Studio in Provo, Utah. As a third generation social worker, Sara is passionate about the mind-body-spirit connection and is honored to be interning at Reconnect to Food where a holistic approach to wellness is fostered and promoted.
COURTNEY RHEE, SENIOR INTERN AND UTILIZATION REVIEW SPECIALIST, OUTPATIENT THERAPY is an intern completing her MSW at the University of Michigan. She is passionate about changing the way people view their bodies and eating. Courtney has experience working with a variety of mental health issues through the six years she spent at Community Mental Health. While getting her BSW at Michigan State University, she spent her free time volunteering at a crisis hotline and running a support group for those suffering from Eating Disorders. She is very excited to work with Reconnect with Food, and to have this opportunity to learn from such an amazing program!
CINDY LEVINE, MSW, RYT is a registered yoga teacher and has a Bachelors degree in special education from Michigan State University and a Masters degree in social work from the University of Michigan. She is a yoga teacher at Jonny Kest's Center for Yoga where she has taught for the last two years. She has also worked for Crittenton Hospital in their weight management program and for the Oakland County Child and adolescent Clinic. Cindy runs the yoga and group therapy sessions of our eating disorder intensive programs.
BROOKE MALLON, BFA is a Michigan based actress and licensed Nia Instructor; she currently teaches The Nia Technique at Renaissance Unity in Warren and Body and Mind Fitness in Ferndale. Nia is a fusion of the Dance Arts, the Martial Arts, and the Healing Arts which integrates the Body, Mind, and Spirit. Brooke also has a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theater from New York City’s Pace University as well as a minor in Musical Theater. By tapping into our divine creativity we can break habitual responses and learn to trust our authentic selves. Brooke is able to relate to the clients at Inner Door because she too was once a patient in the Reconnect with Food® program and has taken the healing journey of recovery herself. Moving beyond behavioral symptoms, Brooke is on a path of self-discovery and spiritual growth.
NANCY McCAOCHAN, MA, E-RYT 200 is a college professor and registered yoga teacher, with specialized training through the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. Her unique foundation led to the synthesis of shamanism and yoga. The result is Shamanasana. In addition to Shamanasana, Nancy practices Vipassana, a type of Buddhist mindfulness meditation. She facilitates meditation, dance and movement along with the music therapy component of the Reconnect with Food ® Intensive Programs, along with life skills building, career assessment, time management, study habits, and other personal development program aspects. JANICE STEINGOLD, BFA is a graduate of the renowned, College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, with an emphasis in art education and psychology. She is an accomplished artist and graphic designer, and believes that art can open channels in a more meaningful and personal way to gain greater knowledge in one's own psyche. Janice has been involved with Beverly Price's Reconnect with Food ® programs from its inception. Her personal struggle with food issues gives Janice an understanding of what many are going through and can relate on a very personal level. Art is Janice's personal expression, and she provides the most innovative creative art experientials for clients in our comprehensive eating disorder programs. Using all forms of media and use of all senses, Janice is excited to help others achieve that same expression.
JULIE STULBERG, BS, RYT is a Registered Yoga Teacher and Recovery Specialist (Peer Coach) in the Reconnect with Food® programs. She has incorporated her healing gift of yoga at Gilda's Club, automotive companies, public schools, Sandra Parker, MSW’s Freedom Project and at Children's Village. Julie’s personal journey lends itself to making strong connections with clients who are struggling with eating disorders and related addictions. With her intuitive and empathic style, she is able to reflect and teach clients in our intensive programs how to tap into their inner wisdom. Julie is a frequent speaker in the community and in the media on eating disorder recovery. She has been featured at Beaumont Hospital’s Eating Disorder Awareness Week Program along with health stories on WDIV and WXYT TV. She has also been featured in various eating disorder print articles and websites.

Background check will also need to be completed, by our office, through respective board of licensure as required by entities that govern our facility.
